FITZMAURICE, JON A.

Jon A. Fitzmaurice of Kalamazoo, age 67, passed away at Borgess Medical Center on January 7, 2015. He was born on November 29, 1947. Jon had a fantastic character which made him a joy to be around and a friend to many. He was loving, selfless and always went out of his way to help others. Jon was very knowledgeable and handy and could fix anything. He enjoyed having great discussions, playing cards, teaching and mentoring.

Jon was a hard worker and self-made man who was employed by AT&T for over 47 years. Jon was active and enthusiastic in everything he did. He served on the Board of S.W. Michigan Credit Union and Advia Credit Union. He loved cars, trains and cats.

Above all Jon was devoted to his family. He gave his heart to them and leaves them with memories and a legacy of a life well lived. On March 6, 2000, he married Lauren (Hartwigsen) Fitzmaurice who survives. He is also survived by three children, Megan (Jason) McFadden, Jon (Carolyn) Fitzmaurice and Vanessa Miller; two grandchildren, Patrick and Aubrey Fitzmaurice; his mother, JoAnn; two sisters, Karan Berry and Susan (Robert) Archey; nieces, nephews and great friends.

A memorial visitation was held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the funeral home where a service was held on Friday, January 16, 2015. Memorial donations may be made to ISAAC (Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community), c/o the funeral home.
